  • When is the submission deadline?
    The deadline for the Nature, Being & Technology Open Call is July 30, 2025.
  • Is there a size restriction for my art submission?
    There is not a specific size restriction, but the pieces must all be wall hung. The maximum height is 9' (2.7m). Please also keep in mind that the work will need to shipped or otherwise transported to Hamilton, ON upon acceptance to the exhibition - this may also impact size possibilities for the piece.
  • Do you have a specific application form for the Open Call?
    Due to the anticipated variety of submissions, we do not have a formal application form. We are accepting email submissions to nobacontemporary@gmail.com with the following information: A current photograph of the artist Contact information: name and surname, city and country of birth/residence, telephone number, e-mail address, date of birth A bio of the artist (maximum 2000 characters with spaces) Colour photographs of the work(s), shown against a neutral background and presented in a manner similar to their planned presentation in the exhibition. Each work must be labelled with a title, year of production, technique and materials, dimensions, and a short conceptual description (maximum 500 words) A short description of your relationship to Nature, Being & Technology (maximum. 500 words)
  • How does the selection process work?
    All submissions will be evaluated by a blind jury of textile experts and multidisciplinary artists. Pieces will be judged based on their relation to the theme Nature, Being & Technology as well as medium, artist statement, and overall composition.
  • When will I find out if my piece is accepted?
    The jury will begin evaluation of the applications after the July 30 deadline, and will notify you of the decision by September 15, 2025.
  • When do the works have to be in the venue?
    Artists must plan to ship or deliver the artwork to Hamilton, ON by the start of November. Upon acceptance of your piece, the NoBa team will coordinate with you about how and when to send your art.
  • I don't have a Baltic background - can I still apply?
    YES! For this open call and for all NoBa events, all are welcome - no Baltic heritage necessary. We are a Baltic-founded platform, but we host and welcome artists from everywhere! We encourage international submissions from artists of all backgrounds.
  • What can I expect at the Symposium?
    We will have several artist speakers, 2 round table discussions, a 'baltic style' lunch, and a textiles and technology workshop in the afternoon, followed by a closing cocktail reception. Please visit our website page here for more details about the itinerary and speakers.
  • What will happen in the workshop?
    The workshop will have a streamed introduction by textile artist & professor Ieva Krumina, then we will have a hands-on experience led by Ilze Godlevskis to combine textile, fibre and technology related materials to express personal relationships and connection to technology.
